The view of sunset from the middle of tanguar haor.

(The word ‘Haor’ defines a sort of wetland)

Can a haor be marked as a destination for tourists? It may sound preposterous to people who have not heard of Tanguar Haor. Tanguar haor is one of most significant marshy wetlands in Bangladesh, which is located in Sunamganj district and embraces two sub-districts; Tahirpur and Dharmapasha. This 40 square mile aesthetic wetland is full of natural resources. More than hundred species of birds and fishes have aggrandized the heavenly land.

Tourists who are looking for adventure, Tanguar haor should be on the priority list. There are many activities that trippers may love to do. The watch tower lets travellers to capture 360° view. Insane explorers often make attempt to jump into the shiny water. You may get tempted go boating when you will find locals are offering it in a equitable price. If you know swimming, then why would you resist floating on the serene water?

Even if Tanguar Haor is an unwavering source of livelihood for many, still there are possibilities to boost the output. To local fishermen, Tanguar Haor is just a site to catch fishes. It cannot be denied that, fishing from there has vast contribution to our economy. But what do we derive from tourism? Can we assuredly illustrate a remarkable acquisition that has been earned from tourism? No. Because authority did not take effective action to promote this particular territory.

An example of efficient tourism management by the authority is hard to refer. Literally, we failed to monitor our resources. Neither tourists nor administration are conducting in such way that helps those attractions to comprise the biodiversity forever. For example, sightseers often throw water bottles, chips/ cookie packs and other garbages etc on the wetland of Tangua. Illegally cutting down nearby trees, hunting migratory birds, catching fish on breeding season leading to devastating consequence. In addition, despite being one of most frequently visited places in recent years, there are no rules and regulations have been set up to disallow visitors throwing wastes to get rid of possible environment pollution.

To sum up, it is mandatory to act as early as possible to face upcoming threats. Initially, dynamic waste management will act eco-friendly. As wastes are caused by litters from visitors, authority may penalize the people who throw litters or violate rules. Necessarily, natives who are subconsciously doing things that hamper tourism potential – should realize the opportunities of taking care of it. Because once we lose the balance, we cannot get it back.
